The CLASP Outreach Committee sponsors a variety of initiatives designed to share public engagement strategies for extending Latin American studies resources to outside audiences, including primary through post-secondary educators, community organizations, businesses, the media, and other individuals/organizations who are interested in learning more about Latin America.
Duties of the Outreach Committee chair and members include:
- organize conference sessions for outreach professionals to discuss best practices
- coordinate exhibit booths to promote resources
- advance opportunities for collaborative activities among CLASP members
- share information through the CLASP website and listserv
- serve as a resource for CLASP members, and other individuals/organizations, who request consultation on outreach activities
The Outreach Committee also undertakes initiatives focused on supporting K-12 educators, including:
- curate and collect examples of exemplary K-12 resources, including curriculum, lending libraries, and travel and training opportunities
- award exemplary teachers with the annual CLASP Teaching Award for K-12 Educators
- oversee the Americas Book Award for Children’s and Young Adult Literature
